This is the oldest British maker and by far the biggest operation comparing to the other UK fencing shops. They have a sales counter and the factory next door where some lucky visitors get personal tours. The general quality of the equipment is high and sometimes very high. Don't hesitate to buy the excellent Pro, Blaise Frere and Etoile ranges and have a look at the wide selection of fencing books too.

Good for: Buying the gear that fits you well because you can try it on. While you're there get everything else you need!

It's a shame that:
Leon Paul's own V shaped epee blade marketed as the world's lightest is not well balanced and breaks easily.
The Weapon assembler on the web shop has so many choices that it makes buying a basic item into a daunting task.

First of all I have to say that the "design" of the products are excellent.
However, experiencing now the last 2 online orders the quality (assembly) of the products are sloppy. Here some examples. The point barrel of one blade has a strange fixed position concerning the rotation. Same sword failed during the first week (during a competition) by break (cut) of the wiring next to the terminal screws (socket) for both wires. Reason clearly a deep cut into the wire material during the process of removing the insulation. One more blade with a strange pile of glue near the base (with a rectangular hole in the middle) as cosmetic deviation to high quality aspect. The sockets are located to fit the LP body cord, but have to be bended into strange position (without disassembling the entire construction) to be able to connect normal body cord plugs).
Calling it minor gaps in clear superior customer satisfaction overall LP is a place to receive good products concerning the design and functional aspects. The customer service is fine, even sometimes email responses are sometimes not immediate in 24h. I think going to the shop is worth the visit.

Hi, I ordered a bodywire and it arrived in less than 48 hours after my order, all the way from London to the northern part of Sweden! I thank them very much for this extremely good service, this was the fastest delivery I have ever experienced! My last bodywire lasted 10 years so I already knew the quality.

I asked for a reasonably light and not too flexy blade, they sent me a BF maraging blade, so heavy, like a poker, to fit french handle also an insulated pommel. The blade was threaded. the pommel was to fit slotted. Not impressed.

...After much on-line research and pondering I opted to get my kit from LP. Despite the fact I turned up thirty minutes before closing time, and there already being another customer being served by the lone member of staff, I received an absolutely first class shopping experience from LP.

Further, even though to serve me took the shop ten minutes past their closing time, the shopping experience I received was fantastic. I was given good advice on the kit and what upgrade deals were available, as and when I may want them.

As well as all that, parking within sight of the LP shop was a doddle too!

As for price, you pay for what you get, and I'm very happy! So there!

I have nothing negative to say about LP. Their products are great as is their service. The online orders are processed quickly, within a day, and the shipping takes at most 3 days. The speed is great and the orders are accurate. When I ordered the wrong glove size LP responded quickly to my email regarding how to return it. In fact they shipped out the new glove before I had even sent the wrong sized glove back. I guess they trust their customers, which is good as it makes customers trust them. A great experience. I will continue to buy from them in the future.

I must compliment Leon Paul on their small range of theatre weapons. I recently bought two of their lightweight stage swords fitted with epee blades for use in rehearsals for a production of The Three Musketeers. I was sorely tempted to use them in the actual production! The one 'in the style of a traditional epee' handles beautifully and has a lovely, satisfying 'ting!' that rings out. It feels just right and at about £80 is very reasonably priced. Came in the post very quickly too. First class.

I bought a Sabre Starter kit from Leon Paul February 2009. I take great care of my equipment. But even still the stitching on the glove went in four months. The rivets in the helmet have also come out and the padding has started fall away from the top of the helmet. I expected far far more.

Being a recently renewed fencer I went down to the Leon Paul shop to get kitted out. When I got there, there were no other customers and the guy behind the counter was very helpful, but when it started to get some people in he got a bit flustered and just rushed me along to finish the order which was a bit dissapointing. However, I would recommened going to the shop to try the kit on because I think if I'd ordered online a lot of the stuff wouldn't have fitted. I'm very happy with my kit so far.

I have used LP for a few bits and bobs, but i have just bought a pair of club breeches for about £45, I didnt want them too tight so I took there advise o sizing. When they arived I tried them on and they where ok, not too tight and very comfy. The following week I went to my class, I had 3 fights , by the time I had finished my breeches where hanging of me. I phoned Lp the next day to be told that I must of lost weight since I tried them on and best sell them to someone in my club and get myself another pair !!!! Won't change them because I had worn them ! I asked for the manager who happens to be on her hols but will just tell me the same thing. Customer service , I sent a e-mail to the manager stating what had been said and I then got a mail back from the woman I had spoken to telling me that it will get passed onto the manager. So all you with unstretchy breeches who wants to buy mine ????
See what happens next week. Not a happy fencer !!!
