Trip to Turin
Members of London Fencing Club are invited by Club Scherma Torino (which is Turin Fencing Club) for a bit of friendly swish-swooshing and step-lunging. All weapons and levels are welcome. They do a lot of 'social fencing' in Turin and are keen to cross swords with like minded individuals.
Dates of the trip: Friday 18 May - Sunday 20 May 2012 (+/- 1 day)
Arrive on 17 or 18 May, fencing at Turin Fencing Club on Friday and Saturday. Sightseeing and socializing on Sunday. Leave on Sunday or Monday.
£175 for if you arrive on Friday and leave on Sunday. Add £50 per each extra day. Please let me know that you'll be coming some before the end of the next week which will be the Easter. We'll need to collect money by the end of April.
Residence Du Parc, the dream of architects Laura Petrazzini and Corrado Levi, is a building full of great charm and architectural prestige.
Built entirely of visible reinforced concrete, it is one of the great expressions of Italian 70’s rationalism.
Inside there are large open space areas, with greatly luminous rooms thanks to the large windows giving exceptional views of the park, gardens and Turin’s hills. The atmosphere is sombre and elegant, enriched by light and bright colours.
The Hall and the apartments are places when one can see historical works of art from the sixties and early seventies. Amongst which: the parenthesis lamp by Achille Castiglioni and Piero Manzù, the Marsala (1971) chair by Michel Ducaroy, the Stadio (1966) e Selene (1966) tables by Vico Magistretti, the Sirrah (1969) lamps by Franco Albini.
All the bathrooms are tiled with designer tiles especially created by Fausto Melotti for Residence Du Parc whose inspiration came from the inside of a mother of pearl shell.
The entire building is elegantly permeated by works of art. In all the apartments one can admire pictures by Mario Schifano and works by Michelangelo Pistoletto. In the large Hall and restaurant there are works of art by Giovanni Anselmo, Giuseppe Penone, Gilberto Zorio, Thomas Struth, Fischli & Weiss, Francesco Lo Savio, Alighiero Boetti, Anselm Reyle, Richard Woods, many others.
