Message from Julian:
Everyone (who knows me),
I'm appearing in a concert performance
of a baroque opera, "Siroe", by Hasse (contemporary of Handel) this
Saturday 27th at St Giles-in-the-Fields church near Centre Point. Start
time 7pm. Now, it's a four hour monster and not for the casual
in-dropper. But I'd be quite delighted if some of you felt able to drop
in for the first act or two. There will be two intervals, hence two
escape opportunities, and you are welcome to either. FYI, a concert
performance is not staged but simply sung. Though we do occasionally
modify our facial expressions.
As for the music itself, I'd describe it to casual classical listeners
as very similar in appeal to any Vivaldi or Handel you're familiar with
- it's from the same period and composed in the same style. For the
hardcore musicologists, you'll be pleased to know it's a
through-composed dramma per musica interspersed with arie
As you can imagine, I'm very much hoping that casual classical
listeners will outweigh hardcore musicologists in the audience :-)

don't carve up your Friday nights, but I'd be very happy to have some
of you to sing to for even just an act. The rest I'll do for Art,
