This is the oldest British maker and by far the biggest operation comparing to other fencing shops. They have a large sales room and the factory next door where some lucky visitors get personal tours. The general quality of the equipment is high and sometimes very high. Don't hesitate to buy the excellent Pro, Blaise Frere and Etoile ranges and have a look at the wide selection of fencing books too.

Good for: Buying the gear that fits you well because you can try it on. While you're there get everything else you need!

It's a shame that:
Leon Paul's own V shaped epee blade marketed as the 'worlds lightest' is not well balanced and breaks easily.
The Weapon assembler on the web shop has so many choices that it makes buying a basic item into a daunting task.

Leon Paul used to be almost perfect - a shop in Camden, great fitting gear and good service. They were always more expensive, but it was the price you paid for quality and accessibility. Now they've moved to Hendon they're no easier to get to than any of the other companies, and have effectively become a mail order business, but more expensive than the others.

Review :I like Leon Paul: their spirit of innovation, their legacy and the fact that they've got a shop with loads to look at.

The only thing I find frustrating is that their breeches are not stretchy enough even though they snug well around my arse!

Should be applauded for being the most (only) innovative manufacturer out there. Their webiste and speed of delivery are awesome - they are good value too. In my experience their jackets and breeches are very unstretchy and not as good as their weapons and accessories. They also have a habit of coming ut with great ideas but then doing something irritating (and self defeating) in an attempt to corner the market (e.g. their new epee blades will only take their own very large tennis racquet style grip).

This weekend I got my grubby mits on one a Leon Paul foil starter kit which includes mask, plastron, jackets, glove, socks, bag and weapon(I added some breeches to make it a full kit).

I had been doing my research on starter kits from the various suppliers for a few months and I'd discovered that really, when you add it all up, the Leon Paul isn't much more expensive than a PBT, Duellist or Allstar-Ulhmann set. Some suppliers don't include things like bags, plastrons or socks in their starter kits so when you add those on you get a similar price to LP.

The service was brilliant. The lovely old dear gave me one look and reeled off my sizing perfectly, and a guy working there chucked in an upgraded grip for my foil free of charge (I don't think I was supposed to tell anyone though...).

Time will tell on the quality but the LP brand speaks for itself in that respect. In all I'm chuffed to bits with my extremely white new kit and would definately reccomend LP.

I have long been a fan of Leon Paul and will continue to use them as you are guaranteed high standards and and excellent service.

Leon Paul offer a very fast delivery service, usually 3 days from when I placed my order. I am always very happy with the quality of the products and the durability of the blades and masks.

The Leon Paul website is extremely informative with clear and easy to understand information on armoury and the products. I agree it's not the cheapest supplier out there but it's definitely the best equipment around - you get what you pay for!!

At first, I was upset to hear they had moved from Camdem to Hendon however, it's actually not that hard to reach being an easy drive form North London and the M1. Admittedly, access via the tube isn't great being a 20 minute walk but you can easily get there on the overland train from Kingcross which is only a 2 minute walk.

All in all, I am very happy with Leon Paul and know I can trust them to deliver the highest quality products again and again.

I've ordered a couple of items from LP website. Was waiting and waiting but they did not arrive! I phoned and was told that one item is not in stock, so I'd need to wait more. So, it's a shame that availability is not indicated on the website while the money are still taken!

Being a recently renewed fencer I went down to the Leon Paul shop to get kitted out. When I got there, there were no other customers and the guy behind the counter was very helpful, but when it started to get some people in he got a bit flustered and just rushed me along to finish the order which was a bit dissapointing. However, I would recommened going to the shop to try the kit on because I think if I'd ordered online a lot of the stuff wouldn't have fitted. I'm very happy with my kit so far.

I have used LP for a few bits and bobs, but i have just bought a pair of club breeches for about £45, I didnt want them too tight so I took there advise o sizing. When they arived I tried them on and they where ok, not too tight and very comfy. The following week I went to my class, I had 3 fights , by the time I had finished my breeches where hanging of me. I phoned Lp the next day to be told that I must of lost weight since I tried them on and best sell them to someone in my club and get myself another pair !!!! Won't change them because I had worn them ! I asked for the manager who happens to be on her hols but will just tell me the same thing. Customer service , I sent a e-mail to the manager stating what had been said and I then got a mail back from the woman I had spoken to telling me that it will get passed onto the manager. So all you with unstretchy breeches who wants to buy mine ????
See what happens next week. Not a happy fencer !!!

I bought a Sabre Starter kit from Leon Paul February 2009. I take great care of my equipment. But even still the stitching on the glove went in four months. The rivets in the helmet have also come out and the padding has started fall away from the top of the helmet. I expected far far more.

I have nothing negative to say about LP. Their products are great as is their service. The online orders are processed quickly, within a day, and the shipping takes at most 3 days. The speed is great and the orders are accurate. When I ordered the wrong glove size LP responded quickly to my email regarding how to return it. In fact they shipped out the new glove before I had even sent the wrong sized glove back. I guess they trust their customers, which is good as it makes customers trust them. A great experience. I will continue to buy from them in the future.
